If you feel like baking something that’s easy and fun where your kids can join in, but don’t know what well..
Why don’t you make a delicious French yoghurt cake?
It is a simple fool proof recipe that takes 15 minutes to make and only 30 minutes to bake.
for a bit of history, that cake in France is one of the cake that you will first lean to make with your parents, grandma, and Aunties. It is actually so simple to remember and to make without ever failing that you cannot help doing it over and over again. The simplicity lies in the fact that you just have to use a natural yoghurt pot as a reference for the correct measurement for the main ingredients needed for this cake.
So it goes like that:
- 1 pot of natural yoghurt (not flavoured)
- 2 pots of sugar
- 2 pots of flour
- Half a pot of sunflower oil
- 3 eggs
- two teaspoon of baking power or instant yeast
- A bit of flavouring extracts such as vanilla, orange. kirsh or anything you like, or even eventually a bit of grated citrus of your choice.
you would usually make the batter by hand.
But just because I was on my own, did not have a small yoghurt pot nearby and was lazy, I used a yoghurt size cup and a food processor ( which of course works as well)
First start with the yoghurt pot measurements and ingredients:
then, add the other ingredients and blend or stir well (if using a whisk)
Finally pour the mix in a cake tin and put it in the oven at 200 degrees celcius or 290 fareinheit for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes its done, just remove from the tin and enjoy.
For the advanced bakers out there, you can go further and use the cake as a base. whre you can slice the cake in two or three layers and create a multi flavored cake. Some possibilities includes applying a layer of creme patissiere in the middle or Jam you can also damp each side with a liquor based syrup or a nice homemade chocolate sauce.
Another popular option is to add pieces of stewed fruits like apple, pears or pinneapple directly in the dough to create a fruit cake which is nice an moist. Kids loves it by the way.
